The homeowners are a retired couple, and this residence was designed as their retirement home. Therefore, the sleeping quarters are intended to meet only basic daily needs and do not include a private en-suite bathroom. The layout consists of one fully equipped bathroom and an additional powder room to accommodate everyday requirements.

Since the couple spends most of their time in shared areas—reading, practicing calligraphy, and enjoying music—the design emphasizes creating an open and fully functional communal space as the heart of the home. Aesthetically, the design leverages the site's natural light to create a bright, minimalist, and detail-rich environment.

Soft whites, grays, and light wood tones form the primary color palette, expressing the essence and purity of the space through the simplest forms. Clean lines and geometric cuts highlight the spatial structure while preserving the original architectural language.

The open-plan layout connects the living room, study, and island-style dining area, visually expanding the living space. Crisp white surfaces paired with warm wood accents enhance the clarity of the space and create a pure atmosphere. The light tones also help visually enlarge the space. The TV wall features a floating cabinet and open shelving, combining aesthetics with practicality. The island serves a dual purpose—both as a food prep station and a dining table—maximizing usable space and enhancing the flow of movement. Overall, the circulation is smooth, and the space feels open and fluid.

To create a sense of spatial freedom, the design follows a subtractive aesthetic, avoiding excessive ornamentation and faithfully showcasing the natural textures and characteristics of the materials. Through a thoughtful combination of lines, volumes, and negative space, the design expresses the essence of everyday life.

The overall design is inspired by a pursuit of minimalist aesthetics. We believe that simplicity—and the space it leaves behind—best captures the purity and core of a living environment. The design philosophy adheres to principles of refinement and respect for materials. Every line and every cut reveals the structure of the space itself.

What we are most proud of is how the design maintains spatial flexibility while expressing the spirit of daily life. By carefully filtering out unnecessary elements and preserving the natural traces of materials, the space becomes simple, grounded, and effortlessly harmonious—perfectly balanced.
