Studio Jeongdongjin

Jeongdongjin – The Eastern Edge of Korea The new office of Architecture Studio YEIN is located in Jeongdongjin, a coastal village along Korea's East Sea. The name Jeongdongjin originates from its position “a village located directly east of Gwanghwamun in Hanyang, once home to a riverside ferry.” This tranquil seaside community, primarily composed of rural farming and fishing villages, features small coastal harbors and fields stretching inland. The site for the office lies on the outskirts of the village, in a field where the ever-changing seasons are vividly experienced. EQA Office

The certification company EQA chose Destudio Arquitectura for the remodeling of its offices in Plaza Castilla Madrid. Offices are not only work spaces, we must not forget the commercial focus that many of them have in their DNA. In this particular case EQA is an organization dedicated to certification and verification; and that commercial point is part of its corporate culture. Therefore, the design of this office remodeling project revolves around making sense and adapting the space to these needs both commercial and purely labor. With more than 600 m2 of space, EQA's offices in Plaza Castilla (Madrid) stand out for their sober, serious character, but without forgetting the modern touch so necessary in today's workspaces. Smart Design Studio

A readapted industrial building houses a purpose designed workspace for Australian multi-disciplinary design practice, Smart Design Studio. Within the space, four meeting rooms on the mezzanine overlook the light-filled studio through existing slender steel trusses. A dramatic caretaker’s apartment on the top floor runs the length of the building. David Hutton The interior celebrates the joy of the architectural process and making, it reflects our design and work processes. Four 14m long freestanding joinery units create a square ‘room’ with five long desks within. These joinery units serve as large ‘picture frames’ with pinned up design sketches and documentation drawings which cycle throughout our proje... More

INC Architecture & Design Office

INC’s studio is an intensely personal portrait of our collective aspirations and culture. The goal was to create an environment that embodies the values of our company: human, dynamic, ever-evolving and complex layering were to be its hallmarks. We sought to express the multi-cultural, multi-generational and passionately collaborative workplace that is INC.  Eric Laignel The space was peeled back to its essential architectural shell. The exquisite 1930s structure including the columns, walls and ceiling were deeply sandblasted to bring forward the natural and honest beauty of the existing raw concrete. The concrete floor was polished to a high gloss finish throughout. Eric Laignel A back-to-the-future hypostyle of nin... More

Hitotomori Headoffice In Nara

Hitototmori aims to provide not only architectural design, but also “design for living” which includes ideas for a healthy life through the enrichment of interpersonal relationships and eating habits. We have restored a 140-year-old traditional Edo Period home in city of Nara where people, ancient forests, and urban areas all coexist in one historically rich environment. The redesigned Hitotomori space functions as a design office, guesthouse, and cafe and is our primary working location. Hiroki Kawata Prior to reform, the buildings were divided by a courtyard garden into the 140—year-old main building and a paneled annex. The main building served as a living space and traditional Japanese sweet shop. The annex was u... More

Escenario SHIROKANE

This project has a triple role of residential, retail, and office spaces within the building complex. Located in Shirokane, Minato ward in Tokyo, it may be found at a corner of a four-way intersection on Gonohashidori — a street which extends to the south of Furukawa River. Takumi Ota Photography While at a first glance the street may seem to have an old-fashioned touch to it, however, it is not as narrow as what the traditional Japanese streets may be seen as — and both facades of the building may be seen from a far distance. For this reason, it was important to design the project to portray the architectural structure as an iconic presence on the street.  Takumi Ota Photography The five-stories building’... More

WR-AP Studios

It’s a cold February morning and two architects visit a dark, dank and rather unsatisfying office | industrial unit as a potential first studio for a fledgling practice. Having laid empty for 2 years it wasn’t attracting the attention that the landlord wished but beneath the shoddy interior there was hope, there was potential. Here we outline the project that became the wr-ap studio. Ben Tynegate An approach of less is more was adopted. All internal walls were removed, clumsy load bearing walls to support an inefficient mezzanine were removed. Outdated and unhygienic kitchen area and toilet facilities were removed. Yet not all was lost – the existing timber staircase was retained for reuse in the new configuration. T... More

Architekturbüro Arnold/Werner

In a corner of the adjoining districts of Munich, Maxvorstadt and Schwabing, resides the 1906 class listed Art Nouveau building that for many years, hosted a traditional pharmacy. Nowadays, after a big reconstruction project, it is where the Arnold / Werner Architekten Office is located. This rather interesting renovation project characterizes itself for overcoming the challenge of finding the right way to let its echeloned areas interact between each other and keep at the same time an open-space comfortable feeling. This balance is enhanced by the 4,5m high ceilings and the generous sized windows, which provide an incredible amount of natural light and a couple of pivot doors which can transform one big space into multiple separate ones.&nbs... Project • By Feilden FowlesFarms

Waterloo City Farm

Feilden Fowles has completed the third phase of its masterplan of Waterloo City Farm: a new timber-framed education barn. Waterloo City Farm was established in 2014 on a formerly neglected plot south of Westminster Bridge. Owned by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and developed under a meanwhile-use lease, the 1630 sq m site has been transformed into a collective home for a trio of organisations - Jamie’s Farm, Oasis Waterloo and Feilden Fowles - each with a shared focus on education. Despite economic constraints, the group has fundraised together to deliver a masterplan that has created London’s most central urban farm and a verdant amenity for the local neighbourhood. BASE Office

This is a renovation project of an entire building that had been built in 1964 in Asakusabashi, a district where wholesale businesses specializing in leather and decorative materials are concentrated. It is an office space shared between teco and Unemori Architects. What is the significance of gathering and working together in the age of coronavirus? And what kind of space is needed for that purpose? With these questions in mind, we held a design competition between the two firms to deepen our thoughts. Our idea was to let people circulate freely and activate the entire building by using four floors as common areas accommodating a meeting space, kitchen and restroom, while each of the two offices maintains its own base of operations separa... _naturehumaine’s atelier

Naturehumaine is moving into a century-old building on the corner of Gilford Street, in the square left by Mr. Jiji, the emblematic shoemaker of the neighbourhood who retired. The project aims to restore the building's heritage features and preserve the soul of a local business while giving it a contemporary touch. The atelier is set up on 2 levels; on the ground floor is the main work area and the meeting room. The basement becomes a kitchen, dining room, material library and archive area. The major intervention was to renovate the former inner courtyard on the lateral side, to install the main entrance of the office. This new space serves as a transition threshold before entering the workspace. The largely glazed entrance incorporates... More

C Design Office Renovation & Expansion

This design firm has experienced considerable growth over the last five years, and an expansion to their workspace became necessary. The project team thoughtfully crafted an economical solution which brings all departments together while showcasing the firm’s culture and displaying their creativity. Built in 1927 and originally used as a warehouse, the structure contains lofty ceilings, expansive windows and exposed interior masonry. The building's use of concrete, brick and steel exemplifies the innovations in engineering and factory design aesthetic that transformed industrial construction during the early twentieth century. The challenge was to design a space which paid tribute to these innovations while creating a modern and eco... More
