Verdant House

This house designed for the family of a Wānaka artist is surrounded by rich, dense and vibrant perennial gardens — the inspiration for her work. The parallel desires of creating a home that was comfortably cosy and a working artist’s studio, along with secondary buildings to enable outdoor pursuits, informed the design approach and site arrangement. The site is positioned within a development with controls on colour, bulk and form. Our clients asked for a characterful design but not one that would suffer a prolonged consent process. Working within the development controls we created a compliant scheme — with a twist. Caption Caption Caption Located at the centre of the site, the house is orientated on an ea... More

1924_The library

An artist oasis in the center of Barcelona. The library’s owner loves the city for its dynamism, possibilities and energy, but at the same time, he seeks peace and tranquillity.  A protected, spacious, quiet, and bright place where he can read, get inspired, and, most importantly, write. The perfect place that an artist needs to find those moments of intense work and inspiration. Caption Caption The house is the union of 4 floors of an existing building, converted into a single house. The challenge was to unify these spaces initially which were office floors, later transformed it to individual homes, and finally make it one. Chadstone Art Facade

JCB collaborated with Australian artist Matthew Johnson to design an extensive art facade concealing an existing four level carpark structure at Chadstone Shopping Centre. Peter Bennetts Matthew’s painterly approach to the facade captures the motion of flowing fabrics, a nod to Chadstone’s identity as Australia’s fashion capital. The use of a perforated panelised system on a steel substructure utilises smart building technology. Peter Bennetts The outcome is a friendly, permeable and accessible community destination, incorporating new and existing landscaping into the design while enhancing Chadstone’s brand identity. Fondation Pernod Ricard

Near the Gare Saint Lazare in Paris, the new Pernod Ricard Foundation is set in a raw and bright volume of the "Grand central" building designed by Jacques Ferrier et Pauline Marchetti. It consists in various exhibits halls, a coffee shop and a library. A wide auditorium and an area dedicated to stage performances offer a place where the new French contemporary artistic scene is welcome and can express itself. Think Utopia Think Utopia It was made to be fully flexible thanks to an open-plan layout, free of any structural elements, and a double height allowing the installation of monumental art pieces. The space can be easily appropriated thanks to a meticulous work on the rhythm of the existing steel structure, in order to be a... More

EARTH / TIERRA

A luminous red sphere caged inside a structure In “Tierra”, SpY presents an artistic project made up of a luminous red sphere caged inside a cube-shaped structure, constructed with the type of scaffolding normally used on building sites. These 2 simple geometric elements (sphere and cube) form a large-scale construction which stands almost 25 metres high and has been installed in Plaza de Colón in Madrid. Ruben PBescos This powerful visual statement is accompanied by a bright red light emanating from inside the sphere, from which one can almost feel the heat transmitted by the concept of the work. In this work, SpY asks us to reflect on the way in which our home makes up a whole of which we form part, and in whic... More

Loft 8B

Loft 8B resides comfortably in the 497 GW Building, where we translated the architectural design of the cascading glass facade to the interior, with a folded bogwood spine that spatially organizes the apartment— separating and connecting, displaying and privatizing. The interior also includes a blue-glass master bathroom, which contains an overflow bath and steam shower, and art storage areas, which are either within the bogwood spine or in rooms concealed behind pivoting walls. The loft also includes a 7ft long steel fireplace set in a mantel of local stone.   Material Used : 1. Stone: Stone Source 2. Glass: Carvart Glass 3. Kitchen: Boffi... More

Through the Depths

It is with incessant and intense efforts that brilliance comes out... It is with unrelenting focus and passionate perseverance that the outcome gets magical... Through the Depths is an ode to such passion, endeavour and intent... that results in a ‘Gem’, which is a marvel of nature.   A gem that is delicately extracted ‘Through the depths’ of the earth and finely crafted by the ones who care.   Fabricated over a period of nine months, as a symbolic portrayal of constantly changing life, the installation represents the process of extraction of raw stone from the depths of the earth and its subsequent refinement into an aesthetic symbol. Standing 12 feet tall on an elevated stone surface from the ground... More

Studio Roel

This project was made for an artist and good friend who came with the intent of building a studio / gallery in the middle of the forest, 45 kilometers from the center of Mexico City and a few minutes from a town called Cruz Blanca, in Cuajimalpa.Monumental and respectful, the visible structure is placed in the thicket of the forest. Its lyrical relation with the environment encourages dialogue with the volume; a grid of columns and beams surrounding it act as a skeleton, but at the same time modulate and order space.Low budget, spaciousness, simplicity, and tranquility were the key concepts that set out clearly the priority assumptions of the project. We obtained a budget of $ 75,000 dollars for the construction of this space with a carving,...
