Ginestra

Moving from a house you have lived in for many years to a city apartment is a big step – especially if you want to continue pursuing your beloved hobbies. For our customer, a passionate hobby baker for decades, we took this attitude to life as inspiration for the design of the new apartment. Miia Photography Miia Photography A high-quality built-in oven took centre stage in the tall kitchen cabinet, framed by an arch. This arch is reminiscent of the arch of the oven that the client had in his garden. A round tray, which is permanently mounted on the kitchen cabinets, serves as a kneading surface where the client kneads his dough and prepares potato gnocchi. A round spice rack on the wall brings soft, almost meditative elem... More

radical transformation of an apartment in the heart of Turin: a new home for a young Sicilian couple. The owners brought with them a wealth of passions and interests that were translated into precise choices of color, geometry and volumes. Two personalities with commonalities and divergent points that came together in a coherent and lively mix. Virginia Lorello Virginia Lorello The palette of this project is defined by the perfect balance of the two owners’ tastes: one of the two has a preference for blue and cool tones, while the other favors terracotta and warm colors. A mix that, on paper, seemed impossible, but when well calibrated, becomes highly interesting and dynamic. Black adds character to the entire composition a... More

Université de l'Ontario français Campus

The Université de l'Ontario français (UOF) is Ontario’s first French-language university governed for and by Franco-Ontarians. Rooted in downtown Toronto’s East Bayfront, an emerging start-up and innovation neighbourhood, the 50,000 sf campus is home to the mobilization and creation of French-language education in Ontario. Occupying the entire second floor of a mixed-use building, Gow Hastings Architects designed the inaugural campus to retain existing industrial elements while introducing a new vision for academic design focussed on student-faculty interaction.  Tom Arban The design embraces the irregular shape of the building, its exposed concrete walls and structure to embody the spirit of the surroun... Project • By MCK ArchitectsHousing

BVHH

The primary ambition for this project is the creation of centralised living space, reminiscent of the client’s childhood home, with a boundary defined at the site edge, minimising the introduction of any further sense of enclosure.A linked ambition is that of authenticity in dialogue with the site, a notion of building with something found, expressed through the solidity and permanence of concrete platforms and hollows, and a fireplace. Caption Our philosophy was to address client needs while meeting all constraints imposed by a conservation area context. Central to this approach was a decision to limit visibility of the addition from the street, maintaining the prominence of the bungalow facade. Caption... More

Refurbishment of an attic

The attic in the multi-family house in the Old Grunwald district was adapted into the modern and functional flat and work studio. The initial attic space was characterized by various heights of the rooms (some of them very low) and with preserved beautiful wooden ceiling and floor. The places with low ceiling were converted into a bedroom area, these with high came into existence as a kitchen, a dining room and a workspace. All rooms are multifunctional and every room enables view through the whole attic. The way the rooms were arranged, that is the lack of a corridor and an openly situated kitchen allows to compose the functionality of the studio accordingly to the daily needs of its user. Characteristic bricks on the floor define the slee... More

Onde (waves)

The apartment is located in the center of Rome, inside a very rational real estate complex, interesting from an architectural point of view, but incredibly squared and with large orthogonal spaces. The project was born for a young woman, so the main intention was to orientate the study of the interior design to restore a softness, an irrationality of the environments, in line with a female identity, and at the same time in strong contradiction with the external context. The design work focuses on shapes and volumes emphasized with light colors that reflect the nuances of the seascapes. The result is a very welcoming home, with original and sinuous suggestions involving continuous different points of view and overlapping free lines in moveme... More

Project • By DOUGLAS DESIGN STUDIOHousing

Modern Family Home

Our Clients asked their architect to build a house to would fit in with the neighbourhood’s prevailing traditional facades; but asked us to create a very modern interior in keeping with their tastes and lifestyle. We sculpted all the interior spaces to create a greater sense of openness (challenged on the top floor by the complex Tudor-style roof lines) employing very clean, modern details. Materials, finishes and colours reflect the exterior stone and wood in a more contemporary manner. Re-interpreting the exterior’s earthy grey-brown, milk-chocolate stone and dark detailing inside, a careful balance of tone and colour, bathed in light, created a welcoming, homey warmth despite the often-minimalist spaces.  The result is a gracious ho... Siemens offices in Plzeň

In latest commission, design firm CAPEXUS overhauled the offices of Siemens in Plzeň, the Czech Republic. The CAPEXUS architect, Tereza Bradová, chosed to replace often used basic colours with bright and saturated gradients of green, blue and red. Forming patterns on floors and vivifying the overall appearance of each room, the colours make bold statement:: offices should be fun! CAPEXUS architect designed and built two floors for Siemens.„Sitting at the top of the building, employees have a stunning view of the city. Nevertheless, the premises used to be dark because of the low clear height of corridors. That posed a challenge as it was something that could not be changed,“ says Tereza Bradová, the architect. She therefore chose... More

CHAIRIK

The four different art chairs, with illustrations on both the front and back, depict his signature stacked houses in bright colours and chaotic perspectives juxtaposed against a wood background, a tumultuous, yet strangely playful commentary on domesticity and chaos. Together, the chairs create a landscape of this figurative motive, where each chair centers around a particular colour- Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. The artwork is protected by the strong, smooth, matte, melamine surface that is typical of CHAIRIK chairs. The CHAIRIK chair was designed by Erik Magnussen and sell in five-figure numbers each year.
