Arte Concreta

Located in one of the city’s most leafy neighborhoods, the Arte Concreta building offers a fresh perspective on the relationship between architecture and landscape. The project, composed of a residential tower and situated in Jardins, is structured by two volumes rotated 45 degrees, organizing the interior spaces to enhance natural lighting and cross ventilation in the units. This volumetric configuration, which solves the corner site implantation, also creates unique views for residents while expanding the visual connection with the green area of the Jardins neighborhood. Bosque House

A solid white form that contrasts with its immediate surroundings. This is the principle behind the design of Casa Bosque, located on a narrow lot within a horizontal condominium of attached houses. This white canvas, being homogeneous, does not evoke the subjective mental image of a house and allows for an open perception of what is seen, offering a complete reading of the volume, without areas of concentration or elements that “pull” the eye. As artist Robert Ryman states, “white is merely a way to expose other elements, allowing other things to become visible.” By choosing this volume, the design begins with a unified concept where the design itself defines the flows and layouts contained within this rigid geometr... The 1125 Joaquim building, designed by Perkins&Will São Paulo, is a sophisticated and innovative residential proposal in a privileged location in Itaim Bibi, just three blocks from Brazil's main financial center. The 25-floors project features striking integration with the urban landscape, using simple shapes, neutral colors and natural elements, such as wood and vegetation, to create an elegant and timeless look. Aluminum sunshades and planters with a woody finish create a unique composition, while generous frames allow the entry of natural light and ventilation, promoting a harmonious connection with the outside. Maria Flor Inn

The Maria Flor Inn is a boutique hotel with 12 rooms, located on the island of Fernando de Noronha, a Natural World Heritage (UNESCO, 2001). The project is the result of the collaboration between Priscilla Muller Studio and Solo Arquitetos, and it was conceived as a sponge of its context, seeking to absorb and integrate architecture and nature in a subtle, respectful and responsible way. The main proposal was to keep the guests aware of their stay on one of the most beautiful islands on the planet at every moment. Detail: sliding panels of natural pine protect a residential complex from the Mallorcan sun

Spanish architecture firm OHLAB has recently completed Paseo de Mallorca 15, a residential complex on a V-shaped corner site in its native Palma, Mallorca. The project is defined by a unique textured facade of sliding panels with a lattice of natural wooden slats. This adaptable brise soleil serves as a secondary outer layer, effectively filtering the intense Mediterranean sunlight to lessen solar heat gain on the building while preserving outward views from the apartments onto the cityscape. The design, according to the architects, draws inspiration from the pergolas and shutters peppered about the Mediterranean island. José Hevia Mallorca is one of the five inhabited Balearic islands located off Spain’s southeastern... More

Brisa House

The Terrain, in the interior of São Paulo, had a steep slope towards the back, whose orientation is north. To the south, on the façade of access to the lot there is dense forest of preservation on the other side of the access road, a look that also seemed very interesting to us.  Fran Parente Fran Parente The program requested by the client is quite extensive, and in order to create an organization that would allow deep contact with the land, we chose to create a large plateau one level below the access, such as a “buried” ground floor. This large social plateau at level -1, guarantees privacy to the user in relation to the street and ensures that the rooms, at the level of access has a view of the... More

Oblique Pavillion

The Oblique Pavilion is an ephemeral space, configured in a 12x9 area, located between three access streets at an event fair. The proposal arises from this challenge: to design a pavilion without pre-established facades, that could dialog with all its views, as well as allow fluidity on all sides. Studio Gui Uemura Studio Gui Uemura Studio Gui Uemura Because of this, the design is defined by the sum of angles and organic lines, which provides fluidity to a space that would be constantly busy on event days and also favors the sectoring of the program. 10 facades incorporating terracotta brise soleil to keep cool and earthy

Brise soleil is a sun-shading device that can be applied to buildings as perforated screens, solid projections extending from facades and, more commonly in recent constructions, as baguettes or louvers integrated within rainscreens and curtain walls.  The principal purpose of brise soleil is to reduce heat gain on sun-heavy exterior building surfaces. By acting as a shading device it reduces the amount of direct sunlight entering buildings. Such solar protection can also help designers to increase the size of windows or other building openings, yielding expanded views to the exterior or enhanced natural ventilation. The particular sizing and orientation of a brise soleil system can vary by project type and geographical location, give... More

Vibrant vistas and seamless edges define this pre-primary school in Gokak, India

Built on a triangular-shaped piece of land in an existing educational campus in Gokak, Shreyas Patil Architects design the new Sanskruti pre-primary school as a delightful manifestation of colourful volumes and blurred edges. Atik Bheda Consciously planned, keeping in mind the warm climate of Gokak, the school sits on the northeast part of the site such that the classroom openings are prevented from the southern glare while the ancillary functions like corridors, staircases, activity areas and admin rooms face the south, serving as a buffer between the learning spaces and the vehicular road.  Atik Bheda The harmonious composition of the blocks creates a definitive and imposing architectural volume. The juxtaposi... More

PANAMERICANA HOUSE

The Panamericana house is composed of two overlapping horizontal blocks, with different materials. The metal brise soleil on the facades allow residents to control the degree of lighting, ventilation and privacy throughout the day, which can vary greatly. The same brise soleil used on the facades were also used indoors to control the degree of integration of rooms, such as living room and home theater. Using the same design reasoning in both outside and inside exemplifies the same importance we give to architecture and interior creations. Everything must be in harmony. The lighting technique also favors this harmonization. By means of strategic floor lighting, we emphasize the Brise Soleil even more, enhancing the concept and transforming t... More

Casa Melhado

2038 / 5000 Designing a home is always a challenge we love. Thinking about the needs program, the flows, the articulations of the sectors, the geometry of the spaces. The interpretation of the soul of each of the residents who will use the space there. Casa Melhado is located in a gated community in the city of Estância Velha in the Vale dos Sinos region. Its implantation, on a land measuring 16x25m, was guided by legal conditions and the needs program. This program required two patios for the house to open up to its interior. The house allows for a dialogue between the external space and the internal space. Being inside looking like you're outside. Especially for being a condominium house that allows this solution. Heideveld Primary School

The concept of the new Heideveld Primary School complex was borne from constraints experienced as part of the previous school location and layout as well as from the decanting strategy and programme, which was integral to the roll-out and construction process. The site is fairly small and the existing school operation had to be accommodated on site while the new school was being built. This gave rise to a compact and simple plan form, focused around a shared central courtyard, and two secondary undercover courtyard spaces, one for the foundation phase classes in a single storey block and the other for intermediate and senior phase classes in a double storey block. The hierarchy of shared spaces is a theme that runs throughout the design of... More

Dunoon Primary School

Du Noon Primary School is a replacement school, built as part of the Department of Basic Education’s Accelerated School Infrastructure Development Initiative (ASIDI) Programme.   The Du Noon Primary School site is located within very dense urban fabric, with properties fully built up, and the narrow streets lined with informal spaza shops, crèches, and informal house extensions. With open space in Du Noon being an absolute luxury, the streets are true public spaces, where, out of necessity, pedestrians take precedence over motor vehicles. The existing school operation had to be accommodated on the site, while the new school was built. Hence the new school had to be accommodated on the limited area available outside the e... More

Crixá Educational Center

1st place national architecture competition   The project was developed with the idea that public schools are key spaces for social change. They should be designed well beyond the idea of just learning spaces, but also as community centres, alive and open all day. The school's desing starts form the gound, and follows the 9m slope in between the site's borders, prioritizing the accesses and creating three distinct development levels. Caption Caption Caption The top level defines a light horizontal volume that sits on the terrain and houses the main educational spaces. The bottom levels were conceived as public spaces, open to the new district to which the school will offer its services, along with administration and s... More
