Life Zonamerica

Located within the Zonamerica corporate campus in Montevideo, Uruguay, a dedicated sports and wellness facility extends the conventional office environment by integrating physical activity, recovery, and social infrastructure into daily campus routines. The project operates on the premise that occupant wellbeing is directly linked to the physical and environmental quality of the space in which activities occur. Egedammen Kindergarten

Egedammen is a municipal kindergarten for 144 children in Gladsaxe a part of Greater Copenhagen. The building is designed with a phenomenological approach, focusing on spatial experiences and the way children perceive scale, light, sound, and materials. Constructed primarily in wood with a brick exterior shell, the kindergarten is certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, one of the world’s strictest environmental certifications. Jens Markus Lindhe Jens Markus Lindhe The kindergarten is located next to the historic farmhouse Egegården, now used as an after-school centre. Common Woods

On the edge of the historic Nimmerdor forest in Amersfoort lies Common Woods, a circular, nature-inclusive neighbourhood of 56 homes, including detached villas, townhouses, and apartments across social, mid-range, and private sectors. At the heart of the plan lies a new logic of parcelation: not based on a rigid grid, but on cluster. Invisible plot boundaries allow the forest to flow into the plan, forming ‘boskamers’; intimate forest rooms around buildings. A central square, paired with a communal greenhouse, serves as a social anchor, fostering community life. By breaking down volumes, Common Woods integrates compact villas and apartment blocks into the surrounding urban fabric, creating a sensitive transition between forest a... More

Harel Wooden Office Complex

ALTA Architectes – Urbanistes has completed an ambitious office project on Chemin du Bois Harel, a road that marks the boundary between Rennes, an industrial city in north-western France, and the neighbouring municipality of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande.  The Harel Wooden Office Complex (Bois Harel Tertiary Complex) takes a measured approach to office architecture, shaped by the dynamics of the site and its relationship to the surrounding landscape. The project responds to contemporary expectations of comfort, sustainability, and usability, offering a restrained yet forward-looking vision of urban development that prioritises well-being and respects the natural environment. © Gaëtan Chevrier © Gaëtan Che... Heartwood

In the Central District of Seattle, USA, a 67,000-square-feet mass timber middle income housing project represents a significant development in tall timber construction. The eight-storey Heartwood building was designed by Seattle-based architectural studio atelierjones for Community Roots Housing, a non-profit organisation that builds, preserves, and manages affordable homes for over 2,000 residents across the Seattle area. Lara Swimmer Photography   Changing the building code in favour of tall timber buildings Heartwood is the first Type IV-C International Building Code workforce housing building to be constructed in the USA. SOA Architekti designs new fire station with a down-home sensibility and contemporary flair

Architectural studio SOA Architekti has completed a new fire station in Dolní Jirčany, a village in the Prague-West District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. The Prague-based studio’s design for the fire station is similar to the typology of a rural barn and combines a down-home sensibility with contemporary flair. Alex Shoots Buildings Alex Shoots Buildings The station is located on a trapezoidal plot, situated between family houses and a primary school on the other side of the street. SOA Architekti’s design is both functional and aesthetic — the building’s rectangular shape and gabled roof create a visual connection with the school and its shape and height is sensitiv... More

CLT House

Tucked away in the lush rural landscapes of Hungary, there's a marvel of modern architecture that's as mysterious as it is magnificent. It's a creation by Hello Wood, a retreat that's one with the earth, literally. This isn't just a house; it's a statement, a sanctuary, a whisper in the woods that speaks volumes about design and harmony. György Palkó György Palkó György Palkó Imagine a house that plays hide and seek with you, dug into a mound, peeking out just enough to blend with the horizon. Its green rooftop, a canvas of nature's artistry, isn't just for show; it's a living, breathing part of the landscape. The house stretches out with a 135 square-meter terrace on the water's edge, mak... More

Lumber Building 4

In Kristiansand, Norway, the “Lumber 4” commercial and office building is characterised by its distinctive green concave facade elements. Designed by Oslo-based Oslotre, the six-storey mass timber building features five upper office levels and a recessed, circular ground floor, creating a sense of lightness. Oslotre also served as the project’s interior architect and timber structural engineer. 10 appealing homes built in cross-laminated timber

Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is made up of timber boards that are stacked in perpendicular layers and glued together under high pressure. By alternating the orientation of these wood layers, the stability and structural capacity of the material is increased. This provides a structural rigidity in two directions, similar to that of reinforced concrete. (Source: Timber Typologies.) The use of CLT in construction presents both a creative opportunity and an opportunity to significantly lessen the construction industry’s impact on climate change. CLT panels can be used externally and internally, across an entire structure. Wood is a wonderfully natural and pleasing material — buildings that are constructed from high-quality CLT, wi... More

KIDO Kindergarten

KIDO is a public kindergarten which we like to call „the yellow crocodile“. It is situated on a triangular plot in Aleksandrów Łódzki, in central Poland. The building is a technological hybride. Ground floor is made with concrete and bricks and to build the first floor we decided to use CLT. At the begining of work on the project it turned out there was not much time. The kindergarten had to be ready by September when children start the schoolyear. We reached for CLT to speed up the construction process. Both parts were made simultaneously. Workers were building the ground floor while all the wooden elements were being prepared in the factory. As soon as the ceiling was finished the large timber blocks have arrive... More

Gare Maritime Brussels

In the 1900s, Brussels’ Gare Maritime was a freight station. It is part of the Tour & Taxis site in Brussels, which used to be one of the world’s largest rail and river hubs for freight transport. After it was bought by the developer Extensa in 2015, around 45,000 m² of former industrial buildings were renovated and transformed into a multifunction office and retail complex with events facilities. The original metal framework of the buildings was conserved, together with the large windows. To avoid the buildings turning into hothouses due to the sun’s rays on the glazing, exterior ZIP roller blinds, custom-made by our customer Renson, were installed. To harmonise the whole façade and preserve the view... More

Leiden

The project consisting of the construction of 16 Finch modules was completed at the beginning of 2017. All parties involved have innovated when it comes to the interpretation of temporary spatial development. Leiden is the first municipality in the Netherlands that has given a guarantee to move the modules – after an initial temporary destination – to elsewhere in the municipality. This form of guarantee on the ground is also known as the ground subscription. With this commitment, Woningstichting Ons Doel has been able to purchase the high-quality product of Finch Buildings, instead of low-quality containers or unit construction that are often ready for demolition after ten years. Because the municipality has made a long-term c... More

Timber House

Fast, clean and circular constructionThe hybrid residential tower consists of 30 linked and stacked wooden prefab modules around a concrete elevator shaft. The timber modules are already equipped with installations and sanitary facilities in the factory and there they are prepared for transport to the construction site. This saves construction time and storage on location. This efficient production process already saves a maximum amount of CO2 compared to traditional construction. The prefab wood module construction reduces production errors and improves the construction speed. After all, production takes place under conditioned conditions. The modules are then transported on a truck to the construction site and placed there immediately. Wo... More
