The project consisting of the construction of 16 Finch modules was completed at the beginning of 2017. All parties involved have innovated when it comes to the interpretation of temporary spatial development.
Leiden is the first municipality in the Netherlands that has given a guarantee to move the modules – after an initial temporary destination – to elsewhere in the municipality. This form of guarantee on the ground is also known as the ground subscription. With this commitment, Woningstichting Ons Doel has been able to purchase the high-quality product of Finch Buildings, instead of low-quality containers or unit construction that are often ready for demolition after ten years. Because the municipality has made a long-term commitment of land, quality has been made possible in a temporary manner. And that is new in the Netherlands.
