Fernanda Canales designs tranquil “House for the Elderly” in Sonora, Mexico

Mexican architecture studio Fernanda Canales has designed a semi-open, circular community center for older people in Naco, a town in north-eastern Sonora, Mexico. The “House for the Elderly” is a project for the Secretaría de Desarrollo Agrario, Territorial y Urbano (Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development). Built with a palette of simple, local materials, the tranquil center’s single level maintains a domestic scale in Naco’s small town center amidst an arid landscape. Visitor Center of Longquan Mountain, Chengdu

Located in the Longquan Mountain, 40km far from Chengdu city, the visitor center plays a mixed role, not only serving tourists but also local villagers by providing public spaces. Two main volumes are placed on the sloping site. The lower volume is elevated, connecting linearly in series community offices, meeting rooms and a reception room, to form an entrance keeping the continuity between the inner terraced square and the outer area with the level of the road. Community Center of Sesame River Park, Nanjing

Sesame River Park in the suburb of Nanjing city is an important green open space for surrounding residents. In order to vivify the ordinary life and provide a public space for the community, this little white building has its right to be unique compared with other service facilities.  Atelier LI A geometrical order of irregular quadrilaterals and triangles can be drawn from the context of the park where the community center is located, so that the basic form of the building is created. Community Library of Li Village River Park

Located on the south bank of Li Village River in Qingdao city, the community library is a small complex, organizing with simple geometries different programs, including a reading room, a reception hall, an observation tower and public toilettes, meanwhile providing a circulation system connecting different levels of the park. It is inspired by the “folie” of Parc de la Villette, a contemporary method to design small landscape facilities, which give more freedom to play with forms. Council Hall of Shenhui Community

It was autumn when the site of council hall of Shenhui community was enclosure demarcated.  As a residential community built in Shanghai in the early 1990s, it is the same as others of its time: multi-storey buildings, limited parking area, and lacking of public space. The one difference is that this one, is quite small. Its basic appearance can be seen at the intersection of Ruijin South Road and Quxi Road, containing 4 residential buildings with a total of 96 apartments. Dalinggen Village Tea House
