The project brief evolved from the securing of a vacant parcel of land that was within close vicinity of the client’s favourite surf break. ‘Atlas Retreat’ is a tranquil property in a small local community where the bush meets the sea. Villa JJ is located on a cliff on the shoreline of Stockholm's southern archipelago. The climate here can be harsh, nature is shaped by rain and storms as much as by sun and drought. The local building tradition is characterized by simple buildings, often gathered in clusters to provide protection for each other, such as fishermen's sheds or small farms. In a study area adjacent to the beach of Palaiochora, south of Chania, we were asked to design a holiday home that will host the owner's family during the winter months and will be rented out as accommodation during the summer months. Located in the upcountry dry zone region of Sri Lanka about 2 kilometers away from the Diyathalawa military training school, is a cozy abode designed by Architect Damith Premathilake. Upon a concrete base with an overhanging pool sit the walls, roof and canopy made from prefabricated timber. Archilovers Best Project winner.   Casa da Paz is a project which remodels the 1990s-built detached villa located adjacent to a golf course in the Algarve, Southern Portugal. The project overhauls an existing building to adapt it to the lifestyle of the current owners.  The request included an extension on the roof terrace to create a family room. This compact, eco-friendly home on Wellington’s Kapiti Coast is made up of three simple boxes, designed in response to views — of Kapiti Island, forestry and farmland — and to climate. Two of the boxes are black-stained cedar, perfectly positioned to maximise views and shelter, and to create a sheltered courtyard. One box is dedicated to living and dining, the other to sleeping.
