As Studio Makk, we undertook the renovation of a well-established restaurant in Istanbul, reimagining its layout and atmosphere while preserving its distinctive character. The project included relocating and redesigning the bar area and creating a new lounge space for a more relaxed experience. Forn Lleva’t transforms a former warehouse on Carrer dels Fossos, in the historic heart of Avinyonet de Puigventós, into an artisanal bakery that restores the tradition of bread and places it once again at the center of the town’s everyday life. The London-based studio’s thorough transformation has resulted in a finely crafted and sustainable home. A compartmentalized 1960s home was overdue for an update, and the team from Model Remodel got to designing the flow of the kitchen and main floor. The homeowners received a modernized kitchen, additional storage, and a repositioned basement stairway that is now a beautiful architectural feature. During discussions about traffic flow, it was determined that moving the stairs to the basement was a goal. This repositioning would make for easier access to the basement from anywhere on the first floor and make the living space feel bigger. A historical Georgian ruin transformed into a Japanese Teahouse while respecting the building’s own unique charm. The challenge was introducing a Japanese cultural icon into the heart of old Tbilisi with a nod to Georgian cultures. Studio ST Architects’ renovation of the 94-year-old Ansche Chesed Synagogue revitalizes the space to encourage a greater sense of community and to accommodate twenty-first century needs. The main project challenge was redesigning the landmarked synagogue to make the spaces feel more contemporary yet reflective of the building’s past. Studio ST upgraded the functionality, aesthetics and security of the 1927 Romanesque-Byzantine synagogue while relating to its historic features. The Annex hotel project is an interior renovation of a building that was over a century old. The building was originally built as horse stables with industrial steel structure and exposed brick walls four wythes deep. When StudioAC was approached to convert the building into a 24 room hotel it had been existing as commercial studio spaces turned rooming house for several years. The kitchen and dining room are located in the basement of a Georgian house. Persistent dampness and a lack of natural light led to the recommendation of terrazzo flooring with a light-gray composition featuring white marble. The entire color palette was chosen in warm tones, complemented by open timber furniture structures. The clients expressed interest in refurbishing their dining set and purchasing shelves for the niches. The award-winning Skokie Valley Synagogue renovation transformed the sanctuary, built in 1963, from a dark and formal room to an ethereal, bright and ADA accessible space for a contemporary congregation. The renovation included the installation of new windows and HVAC system throughout the building, as well as converting the old, large stage into new, modern bathrooms and a coat room.
