Farmhouse at Murbad

The client had a 55 acre piece of land in Murbad, a small town in Thane district in the lap of the Sahyadri Hills around 3 hours away from Mumbai. He wanted a farmhouse which would overlook the hills so that he could enjoy a second home away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Caption Self Self Designing a farmhouse as a second home for the client we were clear from the start that it had to be maintenance free structure as other than the care taker the home stays vacant for most part of the year. So the first part of the concept was to come up with a low maintenance self-sustaining structure which won’t be a headache for the client. To ensure this we decided to opt for a raw theme for the farmhouse using a RCC fram... More

Restaurante Urbane México

The main feature of this project is dynamism, both spatial and formal.Behind a rectangular volume there are many sloping lines. Surprises along the way are the result. Ethelett Distribution. The Urbane Mexico restaurant is on a corner, between a main street and a secondary one. Local regulations require not to build in a five-meter strip on the front of the property. We used this space as parking and access. We occupied the remaining surface with the two-level restaurant. The ground floor dining area occupies a third of this level. The rest is made up of the lobby, the toilets, and the kitchen with its support areas. The upper floor only has dining area. We separated the restaurant a few meters from the rear limit. Glamping Ursa Major

Glamping The way we travel has changed. We no longer want a generic, one-size-fits-all vacation. We want to explore on our terms and immerse ourselves in local culture, and we no longer just want to simply witness nature—we want to live in it. A fusion of glamour and camping, glamping is a way to authentically experience the untamed and completely unique parts of the world—without having to sacrifice creature comforts. It is where stunning nature meets modern luxury. ss.mm design / PEOPLE Ursa Major The Larger Bear is the third larger constellation and largest constellation in the northern sky. The Wendy House

The site is the beautiful private land of 8 acres which is a dense forest with a lots coconut trees, mango trees, Nutmeg, Teak etc. Finding a perfect place for the farm house became difficult since we don’t want to cut down any trees on site. By making a grid in site, the form of the building has been achieved in accordance with the tree position. Syam Sreesylam We wanted no steel or concrete structure and we do not want to disturb the existing natural environment  so we proposed  a timbrel vault structure. This timbrel Vault technique has been followed as per my mentor Ar.Senthil Kumar Doss’s catenary based vault structures. Twin Vault structure has been done with the dimension of 36’ and 32’ width w... More

Birch Tree House

Birch Tree House is a thoughtful addition to an early-twentieth-century brick terrace house, located in the Maastricht suburb of Sint Pieter. This tiny little project has been a labour of love for me, which started when my client, Jasper, asked me to design a low-budget addition to their home. Caption The projects aim was to create a better connection between the house and its small rear garden and to introduce a sense of light into the house. The design was conceived as a 'garden room' sitting gently between house and garden. Caption To make this tiny addition feel generous and spatious, a couple of spatial tools were used. The most important one being the dramatic change in ceiling height - also known as "compressing and relea... More

Tiny House - Transportable

The project of our tiny house was born in a context in which the Habitat concept itself evolves and changes according to new needs but also to the needs that society is involuntarily forcing to impose for a more sustainable life away from the frenzy that is too insistent today and ephemeral. The concept of our project, which is based on its actual production, is conceived from a prefabricated corrugated sheet metal structure subsequently covered with a laminated structure in natural wood, treated so as to be able to resist atmospheric agents in any context, thanks also to our system of filtering of natural water which acts as a shield in case of excessive heat. The interiors are presented with the same philosophy applied to the outer casin... More

House in the Woods (Boshuis)

The pure, austere character of the Boshuis becomes one with the surrounding landscape, comfortably nestled in the woods and wetlands. The residents love spending time outside. Not only do they want to see nature, but they also want to feel and smell it. In order to be able to enjoy the view onto the bog lake, all the living areas of the house are situated next to each other in a row, offering a view onto the water. An elongated volume with an open, glass façade towards the nature results from this choice. The rooms are connected by a long hallway in the back of the house. In contrast to the open front, the back  of the house is protective and closed. The outer walls are covered with black long format bricks that emphasise the l... More
