The 2,045-square-meter structure includes an 84-square-meter street-facing commercial space and 10 apartments across five floors. B2 is a reflection of Saint-Sauveur lifestyle; an ex-worker neighborhood of downtown Quebec City currently being revitalized by lots of new urban housing projects. It’s high density confines the green space in the backyard, often very little and inaccessible. The need for sun and exterior space has led to informal roof terraces with exterior access, which has tinted the neighborhood’s typology. Canopée celebrates the gigantic tree located at the front of the project on Saint-Vallier Street: from the top floor terraces of each unit, we can appreciate the elegance and height of one of the oldest deciduous citizens of the Saint-Sauveur neighborhood. Located on a through lot between Saint-Vallier Ouest and Saint-Bernard streets, the project includes five vertical townhouses whose living areas, such as the dining room, the living room and the kitchen, are articulated around a common interior courtyard delimited by two aerial walkways connecting the two buildings. Located in the heart of Saint-Sauveur on Saint-Ignace Street, Les Rouquines is a nod to the copper accents present in the project. Housing seven two-storey units and one townhouse, the project features a coppery setback framed by two brick masses and topped by a subtle play of misalignment of the main façade. While the protected entrances to the units are concealed in alcoves, the common entrance to the courtyard is highlighted by the colored cladding. At the back, the alternation of generous balconies and linear circulations interwoven into the building's volumetry maximizes the sunlight and ensures the intimacy of each unit. Located in downtown Québec, Quinto replaces a small single-family home at the intersection of Montmagny and Boisseau streets. The project includes three large units, a studio and a townhouse which are distributed around a compact scissor staircase. A large entrance gives access to the interior courtyard of the townhouse, while on the roof a common terrace and an urban vegetable garden allow for an appreciation of the city landscape. Located in downtown Quebec, in the St-Sauveur district, Jenny is a multi-unit housing project replacing an underutilized corner lot, which until now has been used for parking. In an attempt to restore the balance between people and cars, the project focuses on the quality of living spaces and puts the car in the background. New to Iowa City’s historic Northside District, Market House is a mixed-use gathering place located at the corner of North Linn and Market streets. According to Nick Lindsley of Neumann Monson Architects, “The neighborhood, which is steeped in familiarity and a long history, has many buildings primarily clad in brick.
