B2 is a reflection of Saint-Sauveur lifestyle; an ex-worker neighborhood of downtown Quebec City currently being revitalized by lots of new urban housing projects. It’s high density confines the green space in the backyard, often very little and inaccessible. The need for sun and exterior space has led to informal roof terraces with exterior access, which has tinted the neighborhood’s typology. B2 is inspired by these clandestine rooftops: each unit is vertically oriented and ends on a huge roof terrace with a 360° view on the city’s most vibrant districts. The ascension begins with the lower levels that hosts the bedrooms and through the central circulation trunk, the occupant reaches the living spaces on the highest floors. The two-level living area opens onto a very generous space where the panoramic view of Quebec City and the Laurentian mountains is at its peak. Although small in area, the open space thus created impressions of grandeur through its height. To affirm the identity of the units, a small offset of 6'' on the façade was created to subtly delimit each of them, in addition to freeing the access to the roof terrasses.
