Porsgrunn Maritime Museum and Exploratorium

Today is the grand opening of a new spectacular Maritime Museum and Exploratorium in the Norwegian town Porsgrunn. The building is designed by the Danish architects COBE and TRANSFORM, and has already, before the opening, become an architectural landmark of the town. From backside to frontside Porsgrunn Maritime Museum and Exploratorium is situated in the Norwegian town of Porsgrunn, 100 km south west of Oslo. The new museum will tell the story of the town’s dock yard industry and its maritime history, which has employed thousands of people from the whole region. The ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands

The ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands is conceptualized and designed by architect Moshe Safdie as the first museum dedicated to the dynamic interplay between art and science. Designed as part of the Government of Singapore’s vision that Marina Bay Sands feature an iconic cultural building on the promontory, the ArtScience Museum is grounded around a circular base with 10 extending finger-like structures that house 21 naturally lit galleries. Surrounded by a lily pond reflecting pool and boasting commanding views of downtown Singapore, the Museum is a symbol for Singapore. The design of the Museum is composed of two principle parts. The base, which is embedded in the earth and surrounded by the Bay’s water and a giant lily pond, and a... More

THE MA: ANDALUCIA’S MUSEUM OF MEMORY

We would like to make “the most beautiful building” for the Museo de al Memoria de Andalucía (Andalusia’s Museum of Memory) in Granada. The MA. A museum that wishes to transmit the entire history of Andalusia. As early as Roman times, Strabo described the inhabitants of Andalusia as “the most cultivated of the Iberians, who have laws in verse.” Our project for the MA is a building in line with the Central Headquarters of the CAJA GRANADA Savings Bank that we finished in 2001. We propose a podium building measuring 60x120 m and rising three stories, so that its upper floor coincides with the podium of the main CAJA GRANADA building. And its façade as well. Everything is arranged around a central courtyard, in elliptical form in which circ... More

Heydar Aliyev Center

As part of the former Soviet Union, the urbanism and architecture of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan on the Western coast of the Caspian Sea, was heavily influenced by the planning of that era. Since its independence in 1991, Azerbaijan has invested heavily in modernising and developing Baku’s infrastructure and architecture, departing from its legacy of normative Soviet Modernism. Zaha Hadid Architects was appointed as design architects of the Heydar Aliyev Center following a competition in 2007. The Center, designed to become the primary building for the nation’s cultural programs, breaks from the rigid and often monumental Soviet architecture that is so prevalent in Baku, aspiring instead to express the sensibilities of Azeri culture and... New Museum of Contemporary Art

The New Museum of Contemporary art is an urban infill in Downtown Manhattan. Given such a dense urban setting, stacking museum spaces might easily have led to an introverted mass, but by shifting the volumes in relation to each other we opened the building up and the museum started to interact with its surroundings. This shifting allows for skylights, terraces, and variation, all while maximizing wall space and keeping within the zoned building envelope. As the relation between core and envelope vary, different lighting conditions and proportions arise. More

Gehua Youth and Cultural Center

This pioneer youth and cultural center is located in Beidaihe, Qinhuangdao. The whole building is surrounded by nature, protected from the noises and chaos of the city. Mas, Museum aan de Stroom

The location The MAS | Museum aan de Stroom stands between the old docks in the centre of the Eilandje. This old harbour area is the most important city renovation project in the centre of Antwerp and is in full development as a new dazzling city district. The building The MAS was designed as a sixty-meter high tower. Ten gigantic natural stone trunks are piled up as a physical demonstration of the heaviness of history, full of historical objects that are the legacy of our ancestors. It is a storehouse of stacked history in the middle of the old harbour docks. Every storey of the tower has been rotated a quarter turn, creating a gigantic spiral staircase. This spiral space, in which a facade of corrugated glass is inserted, forms... More

The Palmiry Museum Place of Memory

IDEA The Palmiry Museum Place of Memory is a museum area complying with the pine-birch forest surrounding the cemetery. The museum building is a part of the Kampinos National Park, separated with glass and steel walls, covered with a green roof. The exhibition space lies among trees – witnesses of past tragedies. The ascetic form of the building and the severity of the used materials form a background for the exhibition inside. Canadian Museum of Nature

The Canadian Museum of Nature (CMN) was the first purpose built museum in the country. It is now recognized for the interdependence of its learning and research components and a collection that includes 10 million specimens gathered over 150 years. The original building – known as the Victoria Memorial Museum Building (VMMB) - was designed in the Beaux-Arts Style by David Ewart. Shortly after its completion in 1912, the stone tower began to sink into the ground. In 1915, the upper part of the tower was removed to de-load the structure, leaving the base as the main entrance vestibule but consequently diminishing the building’s original composition, and impacting the original clarity of the Beaux Arts plan. The revitalization project showc... More

Museo de La Memoria

CONCEPT Memories are figures that live in an unconcluded world. They are fragments of unrepeatable facts, that never happen twice. We don’t understand memory as a juvenile desire to go backwards, to replace the irreplaceable; memory is not repent for us. It is to look at the future knowing of the past. A Museum of Memory should be imagined from the non linear character of time and its images. And also how we can hold and transmit this knowledge in a broad and impartial way. A singular country, between the mountain chains of the Andes and the sea. A museum willing to occupy this band of earth, in homage, through a symbolic view, to these two determinant elements of Chilean geography, marked in the soul of its people. The memory i... More
