Highlights from Milan Design Week 2025
The 2025 edition of Salone del Mobile took place from 8th to 13th April at Milan’s Rho Fiera fairgrounds. This year’s edition featured the biennial Euroluce lighting exhibition, the inaugural Euroluce International Lighting Forum, an extensive cultural programme, and numerous design events throughout Milan. Despite the “hugely uncertain global context”, Salone del Mobile reported strong visitor numbers, with foreign attendees accounting for 68 percent of the total.

Archello’s highlights from Salone 2024
A Mecca for design professionals and enthusiasts globally, the 2024 Salone del Mobile took place from 16 – 21 April at Milan’s Rho Fiera fairgrounds. The event saw an increase in visitor numbers of more than twenty percent compared with 2023 as well as an increase in the number of trade operators. A key date on the international design calendar, Salone — alongside the wider Milan Design Week — continues to capture the imagination, provoke debate, forge new connections, and test the soles of tired feet.

In a return to form, the 61st edition of the Salone del Mobile featured more than 2,000 exhibiting brands from around the world. Over the course of its 6 day period, the celebrated exhibition welcomed in excess of 300,000 attendees to the Fiera Milano’s design-filled halls.

The best of Euroluce 2023 (part I)
Euroluce is Salone del Mobile’s biennial extravaganza of lighting design and a main attraction of Salone 2023. Presenting lighting solutions for the home, workplace, hospitality, retail, public spaces, and more, Euroluce is a veritable wellspring of creativity and innovation in lighting design.
For its 31st edition, Euroluce presented works by 315 exhibitors (with almost half from outside Italy). Brands introduced new products that consider a number of lighting proposals, including material processes, sustainability, visual comfort, and technical innovation. ‘Wood You Believe?’ recycles four tons of post-consumer wooden objects
Wood You Believe?, an installation created by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and architect Italo Rota for Gruppo Saviola, made its debut at the 61st edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan.

Renders of the installation, published previously here on Archello, were brought to life by CRA Make at the Fiera Milano exhibition center. Four tons of post-consumer wooden objects were fixed to the facades of a large cubical structure. The physical installation called attention to the very real issue of waste materials in the furniture industry.

‘Beyond the Surface’ explores the journey of natural stone in a Milanese palazzo
SolidNature, a boutique natural stone and design brand, has commissioned internationally renowned architectural firm OMA to design a new immersive experience for Milan Design Week 2023. In response, OMA created an installation that explores the journey of natural stone, from its geological formation to the finished product.

Daniel Arsham and Nendo collaborate on ‘Break to Make’
New York-based multidisciplinary artist Daniel Arsham has joined forces with Japanese design studio Nendo, led by Oki Sato, to create Break to Make. This intriguing project is the culmination of a creative dialogue that spanned over four years. Quite simply, it is based on the idea that ‘Nendo makes. Daniel breaks.’ The collaboration debuts at Milan Design Week 2023.
For this project, Nendo, whose work is quintessentially precise and minimal, made objects with no planned use. ‘Wood You Believe?’ installation at Salone del Mobile 2023 calls attention to wood waste
Wood You Believe?, a new installation for Salone del Mobile 2023, is an exploratory collaboration by eco-ethical company Gruppo Saviola, design and innovation practice CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati, and architect Italo Rota. Conceived as an experimental space, the project transforms four tons of post-consumer wooden objects into a structure that calls attention to wood waste. It also features an immersive room that highlights the potential of digital printing as a way of achieving impactful and sustainable bespoke designs. This timely installation questions how design can act to reduce waste and at the same time be inspired by it.

B&B Italia celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the iconic Charles sofa system during the Milan Design Week. The sofa is designed by Antonio Citterio, with its installation designed by Migliore+Servetto Architects.
Inside the Milan store, the Charles sofa, framed by a graphic scenic backdrop, surrounded by history, with its elegance and balance, it represents a constant.

For the Pedrali stand “Light Frames”, Migliore + Servetto Architects have portrayed the new collection with signs of light.
Ten luminous frames are the backdrop to the product families presented on various levels within environments defined as photographic
sets.
The backgrounds display light graphics and coloured geometric signs, outlining the characteristic and iconic scenes of the different products.
The exposition volumes stand out against the perimetral walls, creating a dynamic and evocative landscape with diagonal surfaces and multiple inclinations.
In front of each volume the “test areas”, where you can touch and try some samples of the products exhibited. More
