New institute building for machine learning

The four-storey building is located on the north-west boundary of a large science and technology park. The structure serves as the starting point for a chain of distinct urban blocks, creating a gradual transition between the large-scale research buildings and the low-density detached housing area to the west. To the north, the building opens onto the surrounding field landscape. Research facilities for machine learning have been established here as part of the University of Tübingen’s Excellence Strategy. Campus Howest Kortijk

 The Penta is a new campus building for Howest University of Applied Sciences in Kortrijk, Belgium, designed by ABDM architecten and RAU. Conceived as an inspiring and adaptable learning environment, the building brings together classrooms, laboratories, auditoria, a library, study areas, meeting rooms, a restaurant and spaces for informal exchange within a compact, landscape-integrated structure. Rather than treating the campus as an isolated educational facility, the design establishes a meeting place where learning, working and social interaction become part of a shared spatial experience. SUNY Potsdam Performing Arts Center

SUNY Potsdam’s new, performing arts center joins the arts together under one roof, co-locating the departments of theater and dance, while connecting to the nationally recognized Crane School of Music. This project is one of the first academic buildings constructed since architect Ed Barne’s work in the 1960s. The design takes influence from the box-like brick structures dominating much of the campus, yet offers contemporary, fluid, and transparent architecture that represents the energy and vitality of the arts within. CUNY: City Tech Academic Complex

City Tech is an institution committed to research and providing access to technological education and serving a diverse urban population. Perkins Eastman was hired to design a new academic complex on the school’s downtown-Brooklyn campus that enhances the image of City Tech and improves the surrounding neighborhood. The design team created a sustainable, vibrant space where science, health, and entertainment technologies can collaborate and co-exist. Mainly serving the college’s health programs, the new building contains classrooms, laboratories, clinics, and support areas as well as a massive theater and gymnasium. Columbia University: Li Lu Law Library

Columbia Law School’s Planning & Capital Project Management group hired Perkins Eastman to take on a planning and preliminary design study to renovate and convert the existing main shelves and reading areas of the Law Library that spans three levels in Jerome Greene Hall. The study presented a way for redesigning the library’s space allocation to allow a new marquee, double-height reading room along with flexible seating and study spaces throughout the library. The Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities forms part of the University of Oxford’s long-term redevelopment of the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, a ten-acre former hospital site to the north of Oxford’s city centre. Since 2009, the site has been part of an extensive masterplan that consolidates academic activity, introduces shared research and social spaces, and establishes new public routes and amenities.
