On the rugged coast at Bandon, Oregon, Strand Design designed a retreat as two primary volumes joined by a glazed breezeway that frames the Pacific beyond. The house is shaped by weather, light and the long view, with sheltered outdoor spaces held between the ocean and a courtyard so the family can be outside even when the wind picks up.

Dark wood cladding wraps the exterior. A wood-clad entry opens to a glazed courtyard that holds a single tree, and skylit stairs and halls carry daylight through the plan. Living, dining and kitchen spaces unfold around framed ocean views and the sea stacks offshore, and open directly to terraces outside.

Sugi Vertical Grain Unoiled
Defined by a straight, exceptionally clear grain with little to no knots, Clear Vertical Grain Sugi offers a calm, uniform surface with no visual distraction. Through carefully managed forestry refined over generations, Nakamoto Forestry's CVG offers an ethical alternative to the old-growth cedar historically used in high-end construction. Large-diameter logs are quartersawn to produce true vertical grain-a process that prioritizes clarity over yield requiring the highest grade material.
CVG Sugi is available in nickel gap shiplap profiles for exterior siding and interior paneling.

Coffee Park Pavilion
The Coffee Park pavilion is located at the heart of the Côte‑des‑Neiges | Notre‑Dame‑de‑Grâce borough, at the intersection of De Maisonneuve Boulevard and Broadway Avenue, slightly set back from the park’s main circulation routes. It appears as a discreet, welcoming contemporary pavilion, evoking a single‑storey house that is legible and reassuring, scaled to the families and children who use the site.
The architectural concept is based on a simple, almost archetypal volume: a small, pitched‑roof chalet finely shaped by its envelope. A pleated metal roof and light brick façades are treated as a continuous skin folding down to shelter the interior spaces, creating protective porches and overhangs at the entrances. T... More
