AKA is an architectural practice founded in Rome in 2000 by its three associates: Federica Caccavale, Alessandro Casadei and Paolo Pineschi.
Over the course of its ten years of existence AKA has been engaged in numerous architectural projects in various scales, from urban masterplanning to interior and temporary exhibitions design, working in all the phases, with particular attention to environmental sustainability.
Among the more major projects the extension of the Headquarters of World Food Programme (WFP), the Headquarters of the ADNKronos Press Agency , a Prototype of Noise Reduction Barrier commissioned by the Italian Railways (RFI), the restoration of the German Archaeological Institute in Rome, the GMC Congress Centre, the refurbishment of the German Ambassador's Residence in Rome, the renovation of the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Headquarters, the Perugia Contemporary Art Museum, a Masterplan for the recovery of the Castellammare di Stabia’s Waterfront (with Massimiliano Fuksas), a complex including a mall, an hotel, an office building and a public park in the “Castelli Romani” region, as well as the Project Management for Arsenal Section of the 2000 Venice Biennial.
AKA has participated in many national and international architectural competitions with success results, winning and receiving numerous acknowledgments: 1st prize in the Cetes competition for a TV centre in Reggio Calabria, 1st prize for the project of Caselle Torinese new City Hall, 1st prize for an ecological house prototype to be commercialized In Germany, Switzerland and Italy, 2nd prize for the Monserrato University Building in Cagliari, 2nd prize for the extension of Farnesina High School in Rome, 3rd prize for the Felino Didactic centre in Italy, honourable mention for a Food and Agricultural Centre in Samugheo, honourable mention for the new Cosenza’s planetary, honourable mention for a Daycare Center in Cazzago San Martino, honourable mention for an elementary school in Bagno a Ripoli, Italy.
Some of AKA’s works have been published in various Italians and International magazines including: C3, Dezeen, Area, Design +, Arketipo, ONoffice, Space Korea, Concept, Perspective Hong Kong, Architettura Bioclimatica, Il Sole 24 Ore, Il Mondo, Vimadeco Mag, Architettura Naturale, Class, Edilizia e Territorio.

Federica Caccavale graduated in Rome at “La Sapienza” University of Architecture cum laude in 1996. From 1994 to 1995 collaborated with Mixer Studio and Metropolis s.p.a. From 1996 to 1997 worked in Renzo Piano Building Workshop in Genoa on the Rome’s Auditorium project and numerous competitions. From 1997 to 2001 worked in Massimiliano Fuksas Office in Rome on a variety of projects in the field of architecture and urban planning. Participating in varies phases; competitions, preliminary, definitive and executive, found projects like the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, Vienna’s Twin Towers, the Italia Congress Centre in Rome and the Funscape mall in Inglostadt. In the role of project manager active in some of the studio major competition projects, such as the Exposition and Congress Center in Angouleme as well as Regional Palace in Torino.
Alessandro Casadei graduated in architecture cum laude from the University of Florence, while collaborating for his thesis with the Technische Hochschule of Darmstadt. In 1995 worked in Rudiger Kramm’s studio in Darmstadt, Germany. From 1996 to 2000 worked in Massimiliano Fuksas Office in Rome as a Project Manager in some of the studio’s major projects, such as Vienna’s Twin Towers, Simon Peres Peace Centre in Tel Aviv and Axel-Springer Platz Büro Centre in Hamburg and the Italia Congress Centre in Rome.
Since 2011 he has been teaching Architectural Design at IED (European Institute of Design) in Rome.
Paolo Pineschi graduated in architecture cum laude in 1995 from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. Since 1995 he has been actively involved in urban recovery, applying this experience to international corporations as well as various public initiative linked to the revival of historic and ambient patrimony in Rome and in central Italy. From 1999 Paolo Pineschi has been collaborating to the new Urban Plan Program for the city of Rome, specializing in the interest areas for the strategic programs, in the historic city center and for its related urban projects. From 2003 to 2006 collaborates in the master’s degree international program “Architettura - Storia – Progetto” for the “Terza Università” of Rome. Since 2005 he has been an Urban Planning visiting professor for the University of Arkansas Rome Study Center.
