AKA has won a competition for the development of a one family house prototype to be commercialized in Germany, Switzerland and Italy. On April 2007 5 European architectural offices have been invited to participate, confront and exchange ideas on the theme of a one family wood housing.
The Italian office AKA with its eco-compatible and low energetic impact project was the jury first choice. The residential project with its two floors has an overall of 130 sq. m. The first floor is a glass box, completely open toward the green outdoor environment, contains the collective spaces. On the second floor, entirely made out of wood, are located the more private areas.
On the pitched roof is foreseen a collocation of a solar or photovoltaic panel system. A flexible system allows to customize the house depending on the site (changing the orientation of the upper level, using different types of facade panels, etc) and various systems have been used to minimize the environmental impact of the building: lowering dispersion, choosing bio-compatible materials and saving energy devices.
The first residential unit is scheduled to be completed in Darß by the second half of 2008.
