The English National Ballet moves to luminescent new building

24 Sept. 2019  •  Nachrichten  •  By Tom Kolnaar

The new home for the English National Ballet (ENB) significantly expands from their current residence in the east by adding eight new rehearsal rooms. The building also houses the ENB school with a dedicated dressing and rehearsal space. The design by Glenn Howells Architects aims to open up the activities of the ENB to the public through windows that give views into the rehearsal spaces.

At four times the size of its former building the new structure holds a theatre-sized production studio with fly tower, seven full-sized studios, a state-of-the-art wardrobe, medical facilities and public spaces. The building will give the ENB the space needed to develop world-class artists and performances. At the same time the building welcomes the local community with an exhibition space and café.

The building stands as a translucent, lightweight beacon among uniform brick towers. The brand-new building will accommodate a greatly enhanced offering for the English National Ballet, whose previous residence lacked certain amenities, including meeting rooms and production facilities that are fitted by workplace expert BW.
