Located on a long, narrow lot along the eastern shores of Lake Michigan, the house brings views of the water into all of the major living spaces, while maintaining privacy from the adjacent buildings. The lakeside of the house focuses light into the interior with floor-to-ceiling windows and upward sloping roof planes.

Compressed between the garage and the property line, the entry walk terminates at a stone wall that continues into the interior of the foyer. A narrow slot by the front door creates a scope through which one can see the lake beyond the expanding living area. The slot has also proved to be a popular sentry post for the owner's cat.
