Cork House - Newham, London, UK (2020-2022)

New build house and interior design with innovative, sustainable materials

Polysmiths built a 3-bedroom house on an infill brownfield site in Forest Gate, Newham London, using cork and other sustainable materials available during the pandemic.
The project could not be more relevant to our times, as it tackles multiple challenges including how to intensify unused infill plots for new homes, how to build adaptably when facing the fast-changing socioeconomic landscapes during the Coronavirus pandemic, and how architects can lead the discussions of more sustainable construction through rigorous research and risk taking.
Polysmiths was appointed to work as architect and interior designers, for the new house architecture superstructure and interior finished.
The result is a light-filled, efficiently built house using traditional and sustainable materials less commonly found in typical construction. A comfortable, hidden cocoon.
