Walraad Architecten realised an organised program at the crafts mansion in Abbenbroek: a garage for two cars and a tractor. The designers were successful in their approach to make a modern garage while only making subtle changes to the landscape. The design is a fusion of a barn and a fence. The building volume seems friendly because of the lowered eaves on the garden side. The roof is lifted at the entrance designed to let in the tractor. At the location of the car parks the garden façade is made more transparent by adding wooden lamella’s, taking care of a more visual relation concerning the garden.
The continuous wall changes subtly from fence to façade on the street side. Three double doors with equal distance between them are included. The construction consists of laminated pinewood trusses, purlins and rails and a lining of unfinished pinewood. The latter are thoroughly refined with the Plato© processing technique. Platonizing is a form of thermal processing, where wooden beams are steamed and baked under high pressure: hereby a higher sustainability can be obtained.
