We were tasked with designing Krasta City, a new business district that leverages its waterfront location and proximity to Riga's historic old town, while also exploring the potential for revitalizing the surrounding area.
A change of conventions
In response to an ever-changing world, we recognized the importance of creating a compelling concept that would position Krasta City as a prime destination for both the city and its inhabitants. Our solution was to develop an inviting and rejuvenating natural environment that fully embraces the site's location and potential.
Our goal was to create a space that would entice people to come and stay, even if they aren't working there. We designed a new boardwalk along the water's edge that, combined with the landscaping and pavilions, establishes a relaxing and distinctive urban atmosphere. The result is a space with a strong identity that stands on its own - this is the future of work.
Leisure & Work
The conventional concept of an office environment has been fundamentally altered, which has been expedited in the past year. Instead of merely providing a workspace, offices are now viewed as a place for individuals to convene, connect, and establish relationships. Rather than a setting with row after row of desks, it has become more like a communal gathering space.
Consequently, we have developed a remarkable experience that fuses captivating design with the surrounding natural surroundings, promoting comfort and enjoyment for those in the space.
Urban Strategy
Our urban strategy centers around creating a distinct sense of space and activity around two main urban areas. The first space faces the waterfront, while the second space is located in a more urban environment. These two areas are surrounded by four sides of activity, which fosters a vibrant environment for those who live and work there.
We continue our natural approach at the ground level by extending it to the penthouse levels of the project, where we create a green and biodiverse environment that provides an impressive visual cue from a distance. The incorporation of significant planting on rooftops is a growing trend, and we are proud to utilize this proven technology that is now accelerating in developments throughout Europe.
