Studio Marco Ciarlo Associati in collaboration with Studio Daniele set out to respect the former ‘Il Faro’ ruin as much as possible. The transformation maintains the same sculptural dimension and window placement.
The project is located south of Genoa, Italy, in the Municipality of Bergeggi, along the Mediterranean coast. The design seeks a formal and chromatic relationship with its coastal surroundings.
Its chromatic character is developed by cladding the building with natural stone blocks in various sizes that blend seemingly with the color of the sand. The architects envision a monolith that seems to be generated directly from the sand and rocks around it.
