Whether used in bedrooms or social and living areas, residential floor lamps provide sources of light to carve out comfortable micro spaces within a room. Floor lamps can define intimate atmospheres for a variety of activities, from reading and relaxing to writing, playing, or talking.
Floor lamps are designed for direct or indirect lighting. They can be used to uplight zones of walls and ceilings or focused downward onto particular pieces of furniture and floor areas. One common characteristic of floor lamps is flexibility for light optimization, and products typically have such features as height adjustability, telescopic heads, and adjustable shades. Fixtures are often produced with diffusers for glare-free light, or shades painted white on the interior surface to ensure softness. Electronic dimmers offer regulation of light brightness.
Products are made from all types of materials and in a variety of shapes to meet the demands of any space - from iron, steel or brass, to glass, plastic, and wood. Designs from manufacturers around the globe range from delicate and wiry to massive and sculptural, giving architects and designers a rich library of products from which to source.
