Two level extension. A spacious two level extension: Our clients had a huge renovation in mind when they first came to us. They asked us to design their perfect family home which needed more connection with their garden, and to make better use of the available space. Originally this house was split into a lower and an upper apartment. We not only placed a two floor extension, we gave the entire house an overhaul. The two apartments were merged into one spacious family home. Our design was focused on a sustainable, contemporary and comfortable home for a family with three children. Now the new family home meets their every need and wishes.

Basement with large kitchen The basement has a height of 2,1m. By extending the level with a two level void we connected the basement to the ground level and gave it more height. Due to the high groundwater level in the centre of Utrecht, the original basement was moist. To avoid moisture problems in the future we made a basin of the basement flooring and first 60cm of wall. Comparable to a bathtub, this ‘tub’ continues outside and becomes the terrace. A specially designed drain in the terrace takes care of rainwater, ensuring the basin stays dry. Therefore we were able to realise a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors.
