FKD RS by Knauf Insulation is a rock mineral wool insulation board designed for use in external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS), particularly around window and door reveals, balconies, and other areas where thicker insulation cannot easily be accommodated. Available in relatively thin formats, the boards can be fully bonded to prepared substrates without additional mechanical fixings. FKD RS has a declared thermal conductivity of 0.037 W/(mK) and combines thermal and acoustic insulation with an A1 reaction-to-fire classification. The material is hydrophobic and resistant to chemicals and microorganisms.
By improving the thermal performance of the building envelope, FKD RS can help reduce heating and cooling demand over the life of a building. Its Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), prepared to EN 15804+A2, gives a reference service life of at least 60 years and reports the use of recycled secondary raw materials in its manufacture, including recovered metallurgical slag. The EPD provides third-party-verified environmental data for life-cycle assessment.
