Woodbury is a contemporary glass extension in the Cotswolds, designed and installed by IQ Glass for a traditional home near Castle Combe. The glazing package combines large sliding openings returning to a clear glass-to-glass fixed corner, a shaped structural-glass gable and a refined entrance composition, all finished in RAL 9005 Matt to sit quietly against the black detailing of the architecture.
On the garden elevation, ultra-slim sliding doors provide generous openings and terminate at a clear glass-to-glass fixed corner, with the structural post set back so the junction reads as uninterrupted glass. Because this is a glass extension in the Cotswolds adjoining honey-toned local stone, the interfaces were detailed to respect the irregular coursing and thickness of the masonry. Discreet pressed flashings, movement joints and carefully set silicone sightlines protect the stonework from staining and ensure clean junctions without visual clutter. An external band of back-painted glass above the sliders conceals the head structure and keeps the lines crisp.
Everyday access is via a Sieger Lux double door set with fixed sidelights. Black hardware and Art Deco handles continue the monochrome palette and offer a tactile counterpoint to the slim aluminium framing.
The new gable uses the Invisio structural glazing system with shaped panes set out in a clean silicone-jointed grid. Laminated glass to barrier load delivers the required safety while keeping the elevation visually light and the interior evenly daylit.
The extension opens directly onto a professionally designed landscape garden. Working to the client’s brief alongside a well-regarded landscape designer, sightlines and door modules were set out to frame key views through structured planting and terraces, so the glazing captures the garden throughout the day as rooms are used.
Performance detailing was coordinated for long-term reliability. Selected oversized panes were heat-soak tested, and a site crane was used for accurate placement. All visible aluminium is finished in RAL 9005 Matt a coherent, low-maintenance exterior.
