Berlin, 3 March 2017 – Well-known for hand-knotted rugs from Nepal, Berlin design label Reuber Henning is now launching a new line of woven kilims made in India. The legendary Reuber Henning stripe designs will kick off the project and debut as flatweaves.
Stripe designs Loveland, Woodland, Darkland and Summerland form the new line Flatweave Stripes, based on a random combination of 40 hand-died colours. Reuber Henning defines the colour scheme, but the colour sequence is randomly generated.
The woven stripe designs, quite complex with their 40 individual colours, appear playful and classic at the same time. The succession of harmonic and disharmonic colour combinations creates a special vibrancy. Each design is dominated by one shade: Loveland by different shades of red, Woodland by different greens and Darkland and Summerland by black and blue or by yellow tones, respectively.
Shown for the first time at the IMM Cologne 2017, the new flatweaves have already earned their stripes adorning the fair stand of German furniture label Thonet.
Hand-woven in India in accordance with fair trade standards, these new rugs are the prelude to an extensive flatweave collection, mostly intended for the designer furniture trade.
