The table is elaborately handcrafted in Indonesia. Its common to have products produced in Asian cheap labour countries. Main reason is to reach cheap mass production. In Smart Deco Asian labour is involved because of the high level of craftsmanship in this part of the world. Van Eijk & Van der Lubbe designed on purpose a very complicated desk. The woodworkers were challenged to the utmost with this extremely complicated design depicting an Indonesian fairy tale.
The designers wanted a product that never could have been made in the west where craftsmanship like this is scarce. The desk depicts an Indonesian fairy tale which as a pattern has been laser cut in the desk and partly carved out by Indonesian craftsmen.
