The low table on spheres was originally designed for my uncle Giorgio Milesi’s new home in Gorle, addressing a unique need for both functionality and style. The concept behind it was quite “technical”: a spacious coffee table placed between two sofas, envisioned to be perpetually covered with books, magazines, and newspapers, forming an inviting centerpiece.
The table is exceptionally sturdy and stable, yet remains easy to move across any surface, even thick, plush carpets. As the table becomes weighted down with books or other items, it glides even more effortlessly in any direction.
Its design relies on four large, hand-turned wooden spheres, each with a diameter of 28 cm, that rotate within custom-fitted holes in the tempered glass or wood top, depending on personal preference. These substantial spheres, crafted by hand, ensure that the table won’t scratch floors or leave marks on carpets, combining utility with elegance.
This original piece proved so successful that it inspired about ten additional versions in different shapes—rectangular or square—to suit a variety of interiors. One of these custom tables has even made its way to Manhattan, where it now serves as a distinctive conversation piece in a modern home.
