ARCHIPETALI, Nigel Coates’ first design for Xilo1934 plays with imperfection. He makes candid use of his original freehand drawing. Printed at an enlarged scale onto a wood surface, his pattern captures the immediacy. Though geometric in its basic configuration, his artwork exploits irregularity and differences of density. The design repeats the four petal shapes of a simple flower, but as it progresses, the flower switches graphically from open to closed. Deliberately avoiding any continuity, this unique floor has the character of being recycled and reconfigured, as if each board were only a fragment of a much larger design that has been taken apart and reassembled incorrectly. Tetrapetal is available in a range of four colours-ways with variations of both background colour and patterns.
