From a small skylight to a fully automated system with a surface area of no less than 3,000 m2. The advantages of Sunshield solutions are obvious. That is why a large number of world-famous museums use these skylights.
The Romans, inventors of the atrium, already knew it. A well-lit space has a positive effect on our well-being. Skylights and glass roofs have the same advantages. But even in a winter garden it can get too warm. Especially if the glass-covered space is used all year round. With Sunshield you gain control over daylight and influence on heating by the sun. This is possible with external sun protection, or a glass roof interior.
For every shape and size
Skylights come in various sizes and shapes. A small glass roof, multiple parallel skylights, or an impressive atrium. There is a solution for every challenge. A glass roof in the shape of a rectangle, square, circle, triangle, trapezium, or pyramid? Sunshield has done it before.
Form follows function is a well-known principle from architecture. Thanks to the variety and flexibility of Sunshield rack arm systems, louvers can be fully integrated into the roof. Regardless of the shape of the roof. This offers the architect enormous creative freedom in designing that particular shape. For Sunshield, this shape is then the basis for functional sun protection - function follows form. And so the circle is complete.
Architectural sun protection
Apart from functional characteristics, louvers also have aesthetic properties. Because louvers are always custom-made and available in a variety of shapes and many colours, this gives the architect enormous freedom in shaping his ideas and possibilities for distinction.
Aluminium and wooden louvers are available in different widths. The width of the slats also determines the appearance of a louver system and therefore the character of your home. Aluminium and wooden slats are available in different widths.
The most popular louver widths are around 10 cm and around 15 cm wide. The choice for one or the other width is primarily determined by your taste. The proportions of the window will often play a role in this. The wider louvers usually come into their own better with larger glass surfaces.
In principle, the wider the slat, the larger the step size. The size of the step indicates how far apart the slats are when they are fully open. So the larger the step size, the more visibility between the slats. For slats of approximately 10 cm, the step size is 9 cm, for those of 15 cm the step is 14 cm.
Treatments
Aluminum louver systems are usually coated, often in the same RAL color as the frames. You can choose from two gloss levels, namely 30% (matte) or 70% (high gloss). The first can be combined with a fine structure that is mixed through the coating powder, which creates a visible and tangible relief.
If you live near the coast and the air is salty, you can consider a seaside coating. In this case, the aluminium is pre-treated a little more intensively than usual. The slats are then often coated a second time.
Instead of powder coating, you can also opt for anodising. This makes use of the natural metallic gloss of the aluminium. Anodising is not only possible in the natural colour of aluminium, but also in blue, green or red and even in exclusive shades such as gold, copper and bronze.
With anodising, you can increase or decrease the natural gloss level of aluminium. If you want more gloss, you can have the aluminium polished before the anodising process. You can achieve less gloss with brushing, with this pre-treatment aluminium becomes slightly duller.
