Eccentric tattoo art creates excitement at the SuperDesignShow in Milan.
Gent, 13 April 2018: Meisterwerke originates bespoke and acoustic art. In its quest to create a unique artistic tension, Meisterwerke has combined ancient weaving techniques with modern embroidery. Their two latest collections ‘The Historians’ and ‘Les Femmes de Delft’ can be admired from the 17th through the 22nd of April at the SuperDesignShow in Milan. Milan’s Art Director Giulio Cappelline has curated a loft featuring his Top Picks at this year’s show.
The high-end art objects of Meisterwerke, German for ‘masterpieces’, are again eccentric eye-catchers. ‘The Histroians’ is a series of portraits of a medieval nobleman and woman in dark classic costume with a single bare arm decorated with a brightly coloured sleeve tattoo. The tension between the present and the past can be read in their Mona Lisa-like smile. The contrast between the light and dark hues, the past and the present, and the interplay of the traditional visual weaving technique with modern embroidery creates a bold yet topical artistic statement. Their second collection, ‘Les Femmes de Delft’, is also a series of two portraits giving a view of the naked back of the same beautiful woman, but each with their own special tension. The first, with her timeless beauty, captures the gracefulness and elegance of feminine beauty. In the second, she is decorated with the famous cityscape of the Dutch Golden Age from Johannes Vermeer. Both have a tattoo in the traditional Delfts Blue, yet each with their own impressive presence.
Both collections have the same dimensions and are modular in use. They can serve as acoustic folding screens or wall panels, standing in a pedestal or hanging on the wall. Meisterwerke offers an answer to the increasing demands for noise-free peace in interior spaces, all without losing the decorative aspect. Along with their panels, Meisterwerke also create limited edition accessories such as pillows, travel bags, and small clutches. They use the fabric and designs from ‘The Historians’ mixing both tattoo designs into a single pattern, again the unique eye-catchers for which Meisterwerke has become renowned.
