Color and surfaces
In architecture, GKD Metal Fabrics provide visual versatility and inherently functional characteristics. The material opens new aspects of design through the interplay of aesthetics and function, lightness and robustness, transparency and reflection, screening and views, and daylight and sun protection. Fully customizable metal fabric can be installed horizontally or vertically, framed in panels, or draped like curtains. Its broad range of weave patterns can be etched, illuminated, printed, and coated to enhance aesthetic effects.
More options
-Powder Coating
Powder coating is one way to add color to metal fabrics. Fusing dry powder to the surface of metal via an electric charge, powder coating creates a smooth and durable finish that’s ideally suited for exterior environments. GKD can provide a range of powders in a near-limitless range of colors to accommodate your specific performance requirements and aesthetic needs.
-High-Performance Coating
With an in-house paint mixing system and color-matching capabilities, virtually any custom color can be made with Imron HD performance coatings. Durable, long-lasting, and available in a variety of finishes, it is easy to paint solids, graphics, and patterns in a controlled environment for maximum quality.
-Etching
Etching is a GKD in-house process that transfers graphic elements onto a metal fabric surface. Because the graphic elements are etched directly into the surface, it is weather-resistant, sustainable, durable, and permanent. Presenting a high-quality image, etching also preserves the material's inherent transparency elements. Daylight or lighting comes through and adds a dramatic effect without jeopardizing the integrity of the alloy.

Adelaide Airport Landside Infrastructure
Adelaide Airport Limited (AAL) and GHDWoodhead have developed an impressive gateway for arrivals and departures that embodies world-class standards. Inspired by the metaphors of Adelaide’s plains and open skies, the Adelaide Airport Landside Infrastructure Project is expansive, serving as both a civic space and a work of art. The large-scale integrated structure acts as a screen for the car park while also defining the plaza’s urban landscape, maintaining transparency for clear views to and from the terminal. The design features an aeronautical quality, featuring a three-dimensional twisting truss frame elegantly wrapped in a woven stainless steel mesh on two sides. At night, the frame and mesh are illuminated to enhance the experience of arrivals and departures. A key challenge in designing the forecourt was selecting a glare-free material that could contour to the building’s shape. The double-curved substructure is clad in GKD Tigris stainless steel mesh, creating a distinctive landmark for the coastal city.
Phase 3 of Capital Gate, a landmark tower at the exhibition site, features an eye-catching steel and glass façade with an organic design. Its cantilevered tea lounge and open-air pool deck contribute to its unique shape on the Abu Dhabi skyline, giving the exhibition center a distinctive identity. The Capital Gate project achieved its notable tilt using a technique called pre-cambering. This engineering method allows the vertical stacking of floor plates up to the 12th story, with each plate staggered between 300 mm and 1400 mm. The 35-story Capital Gate building's façade is made up of 580 metal fabric panels of various sizes. These Tigris panels are arranged at different angles to create parallelograms, effectively combining solar protection with maximum visibility.
Twickenham Stadium, the home of English rugby, aimed to enhance the customer experience at its food and beverage retail offerings in preparation for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, which England was set to host following a successful bid in 2009. Additionally, the stadium's owners, the Rugby Football Union (RFU), had updated several branding elements that needed to be integrated into any new designs. As the world's largest venue of its kind, Twickenham Stadium required a system to control access and egress and protect its facility when closed. GKD's custom roller shutters, designed with Tigris mesh, provided the necessary safety and security in a durable and aesthetically pleasing design.
