Following a tragic fire, the 1772 Church Street renovation transforms a historic parish hall and existing ruins of an 1800s church into 55 residential units and a modern 18,000-SF neighborhood church. Its scale transitions accordingly from the surrounding row homes along Church Street to 18th street, to give an appropriate identity to the residence and Church in a cohesive composition.

Furthest from 18th Street is the two-story existing parish hall. The inside is renovated into residential units, expanded with new levels but set back from the street to preserve the pedestrian experience. The all-new residential portion is composed of masonry with row-house scaled bays and modern detailing. A four-story church on 18th Street, open to the public, includes a sanctuary on the second-floor and preserved relics from the old church. The sanctuary is wrapped in a terracotta rain-screen penetrated by windows for ample natural light. A light tower signals the church's presence in the neighborhood while allowing additional light to flood the sanctuary. The remaining floors include classrooms and a fellowship hall.
