The interactive installation imagines an adaptation of the beloved legend of the strongest man in Southeast Asia.

A Stone’s Throw (Away) is inspired by the legend of Badang, who threw the Singapore stone down to the Singapore River in a competition of strength. This legendary stone lay at the mouth of the Singapore River until 1843, when the British decided to blow up the stone in order to widen the river passageway. The 3m dome-like light installation imagines the reconstruction of the stone through a series of interconnected faceted panels containing illustrations telling the legend of Badang and the Singapore Stone.

Each of these light panels comes to life and is illuminated with body movement to engage with members of the public. Beyond this, as visitors collaborate together to activate the outer skin, the stone starts to glow from within, generating an immersive experience to finally light up intensely and reveal the true scale of the colossal stone that was carried by Badang.
