What was the brief?
Based on the Caspian Sea shorelines, we were commissioned to design and build a tropical inspired beach guest house close to the client’s main compound.
Our client wanted to specifically be able to walk naked from the warmth and comfort of the dwelling directly into the tropical pool.
The dwelling also required an elevator for the elderly.
What were the key challenges?
Being close to the shore and within the view of public realm,
We needed to achieve a level of privacy without compromising light and views from the dwelling.
The incorporation of an elevator into the small dwelling became quite a challenge as we didn’t want to jeopardize the roof design and excavate an elevator shaft therefore, we used industrial hydraulic lift with a cabin on top of it.
With poor soil conditions, a raft foundation was advised. we created rain water ducts and canals between the foundation slap and 60cm raised ground floor. By doing so we redirected the heavy rain fall to the sea, while keeping the dwelling cool with the help of sea breezes ventilating from underneath the dwelling without any visual openings.
What materials did you choose and why?
The quality and visual aesthetics from the continuity of the solid planks was the main reason we choose Densien’s Douglas solid 6 meter floor planks.
All bathroom tap sets are wall mounted and brushed bronze from Hans Grohe.
