For the Advice Centre for the Flevoland branch of the Dutch bank Rabobank the architects gave an ambitious effect to the 'hole' in the Middle Dreef in Lelystad, the Netherlands. The design can be read as two seemingly simple volumes, which are mixed together and who are integrated. One building element consists of glass and stucco, the other building element of anthracite brick.
The design was intended for the Advice Centre of the Rabobank Flevoland. This is the expertise centre of the bank for the receipt of corporate customers and wealthy individuals in a professional manner for advice. In addition, the building efficiently houses the professional employees of the bank.
The site required an ambitious interpretation of the 'hole' in the Middle Dreef between the building of the Chamber of Commerce and the nursing home. The design can be read as two seemingly simple volumes, which are mixed together and integrated. One building element consists of glass and stucco and has a light and vertical character and through its form gives a slim height emphasis on Central Drive. A second, anthracite brick building part is firm and horizontal. This portion greatly juts out both on the side of the central alley and behind the Chamber of Commerce along direction centre. The head of this portion is transparent and provides a window into the city. This creates a clear and yet intriguing building that contributes to the recognition of both the place in town and the client, for which it was build.
Employees have no fixed workstation. The number of workstations was reduced to 70% of the number in the old situation. For temperature control, Rabobank has chosen a heat/cold storage. With this system, the earth is used for the heating and cooling of the building. Two wells in water-bearing sand layers act as a cold source and heat source. The CO2 emissions from this system are lower than from a fossil fuel. With this Rabobank Flevoland has invested in a renewable energy solution.
