This project involves demarcating the various periods of intervention of the building, and this proposal is one of those chapters of urban metamorphosis and reframing.

The aim is to highlight the various eras of the building: the original construction, which refers to an industrial structuring on floors 0 and 1; the 1912 extension that included floor 2 and the central turret on the east façade; and the new contemporary intervention in relation to the tiled floor and the metal volume. This is a dialogue that is not new: between the pre-existence and the contemporary proposal.

A set of changes was made, with a particular focus on accessibility and functional reorganisation of the fractions, adjusting them to current needs and requirements, which will decisively improve the health, accessibility, habitability and safety conditions in each fraction, but also to promote the structural performance of the building, ensuring the necessary earthquake resistance, currently non-existent.

In this sense, it was decided to assume materialities and languages that correspond to this intention to mark eras and distinguish interventions: in the 'old' building, materials and elements that refer to the original era were chosen, such as decorative skirting boards, relief shutters, design of crown mouldings, etc. in the new building, this differentiation is assumed with a metallic 'skin' that surrounds this volume on the outside, and inside, contemporary spaces with minimalist details were created.
