Agus Glen Library

The Angus Glen Library forms part of a larger multi?use complex occupying a terraced greenfield site in Markham, Ontario. At 35,000 square feet, this district library is one of the largest in the municipality?s system and features one of the largest Asian language collections in the Greater Toronto Area. The library opens on to the internal street of the multi-use complex with mobile display furniture and large sliding glass doors providing an ample and inviting threshold. Immediately within the library, patrons are greeted by the primary browsing area that offers the most popular and frequently enjoyed items in a comfortable lounge setting. The browsing area and adjacent study zone are located in the center of the ground floor beneath a soaring atrium. Here, a bold poured-in-place concrete structure supports sawtooth skylights framed in heavy timber. This rich materiality and structural expression are present through both floors of the library and relate it to the larger architectural complex.
