This project is a recently completed knockdown rebuild project in Northern Beaches’ Allambie Heights. This transformation replaced a 1960s elevated red brick box house, which no longer suited its residents— an older child-free couple. The new design maximises the site's natural attributes, including its elevated ocean views, excellent airflow, and optimal northern aspect.
The design features sliding glass doors that reveal a continental rail, seamlessly connecting the indoor and outdoor spaces. The heart of the house is a large, high-ceiling living, dining, and kitchen area. Full-height sliding doors on the east side open to a balustrade, inviting in refreshing sea breezes, while those on the north side lead to a spacious balcony, perfect for outdoor relaxation and entertainment.
The kitchen is ingeniously designed to blend into the double-height living room, creating a partition-like effect. It also cleverly conceals a corridor that leads to a large bathroom and two bedrooms, ensuring privacy and efficient use of space. Accessibility is a key feature of this home, with a lift that connects the ground-floor garage to the first-floor living areas, making it easy for the residents to move between levels.
Adjacent to the garage, a ground-floor granny flat is designed for visitors. This self-contained unit includes a living room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and laundry, providing comfort and privacy for guests.
The exterior combines two sizes of white brick and wide dark metal claddings, creating a modern and visually appealing look that blends harmoniously with the natural surroundings. These materials enhance the home's aesthetic appeal while ensuring durability and low maintenance, catering to the practical needs of the homeowners.
