Anavilhanas Base Avançada Pavilion

Alongside the Black River, in the heart of the Brazilian Rainforest, lies the Base Avançada Pavilion, part of the Anavilhanas National Park. This protected area encompasses 60% of the total fluvial expanse, which is home to more than 400 islands.

The pavilion was conceived as an extension of the Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge complex, located about 50 kilometers downstream. It serves as a meeting point for tourist groups wandering and exploring the area. The restaurant, changing rooms, and swimming pool offer a place to rest and relax amid the forest and river while preserving their surroundings.

The building was designed to seamlessly blend into and adapt to the landscape while maintaining the necessary distance from the river, considering its varying high and low tides throughout the year. It is strategically positioned at the start of an existing trail, serving as a launching point for potential land and river routes.

Local materials and techniques were integrated into the design process, and the structure was dimensioned with logistics in mind for site access. With all this in consideration, a grid of 4.0m x 4.5m was chosen to fit on the boats, the sole means of reaching the area.

The entire pavilion was constructed by local woodworkers at the hotel, ensuring a straightforward assembly process.

The building's shape seamlessly melds with nature, nearly disappearing among the trees and bushes, as a result of the project's initial premise: to minimize the environmental impact in the area.
