Cottage house in the forest with design by macro arquitetos is pure coziness when valuing natural elements in a rustic style

The residential project Anexo Chalé Mairiporã took a year to be built with the architecture of Macro Arquitetos, from partners Carlos Duarte and Juliana Nogueira in Mairiporã, a city near São Paulo.  

Built for a young couple who were looking for a countryside refuge close to the capital, the clients, who are from the countryside and lived in São Paulo, had their first child when the house was ready. Less luxury and more coziness was the premise to reach the home that the family dreamed of. Another request, according to the architects, was that the work, in a certain way, would be camouflaged in the forest amidst the many natural elements.

The idea was to create a space where they could gather with friends and family around cozy, welcoming environments, without divisions by walls, only by environments of use, and that whenever possible there would be a visual connection with nature.  

The main challenge was to insert the need for the program into the terrain without having to mess with any existing trees. To do this, several tests were made to preserve the Ipê trees on the lawn, and the jabuticabeira and pitangueira trees on the deck.

Materials such as stone, concrete, wood, and inspiration from the country houses of Uruguay helped in the design. All materials used are natural, nothing industrialized. Burnt cement floor, exposed concrete ceiling, walls covered in stone, pillars covered in shou sugi ban carbonized wood, demolition wood in the shelves, cumaru deck, iron frames painted black, and white walls with rustic plaster.

To define the program, the first step was to find the space to insert in the terrain, in the existing implantation. All the part that did not need a view turned to the land border, and the rest to nature. Divided in two rooms, the one with higher ceiling height has the kitchen, dining room, living room and fireplace, with access to a large door that gives access to the deck and pool, which are in the middle of the forest. The games room is on the lower slab. Behind the volume of the fireplace is the restroom, where the access is through the game room and, on the other side, the pantry and a stairway that leads to the basement, where there is a wine cellar. 

The architecture maintained the visual connection between the environments and adopted the maximum transparency to bring the green of nature into the house and the locksmith doors used marked the grid of the paging so that the residence is not totally exposed.

The lighting design was based on prioritizing natural lighting in all areas. The doors are all on the ceiling, opening 100% of the span, bringing a lot of ventilation and lighting to the house, using as few direct ceiling spots as possible to enhance the reinforced concrete slab.
