House 13

TEN Arquitectos as Architects

The proposal is developed to offer low cost sustainable housing and is the result of analysis and studies that allowed to detect and solve the quantitative and urban needs of the framing.

The house has 36 m² and is designed as a “Kit of Parts” system based on modules that, in addition to being economical, is self-building, low maintenance and can be extended according to the needs of the users. The house is designed to take full advantage of natural lighting and have a direct relationship with the outside; the sloping roof facing south, has a rainwater harvesting system and will allow users to place solar cells.

The architectural program in its first phase is composed of 4 modules, in the first one a covered patio that serves as access and family gathering point, in the second the living room; in the third the kitchen, the bathroom and the service room; while in the fourth module is the bedroom. All communicated through an exterior corridor.

The construction moves on a plot of 90 m² and is based on a lightweight modular metal structure of 3.00 x 3.00 meters based on 4”x 4” PTR profiles, assembled by metal connectors; the structure moves to 60 cmabove floor level and is supported by insulated reinforced concrete footings. The floor and the slab are based on W panelwith polished concrete finish; the transparent exterior walls are structured on metal panels and the covering of the solid partition walls is made of agglomerated wood on the inside, a layer of thermal insulation at the center and corrugated sheet on the outside.

The development of this prototype will generate cooperation and integration between the community and will allow the population to have a decent home with which they can feel identified. Through the flexibility of the proposed spaces and thanks to the contact with the outside, an interaction with the usual tasks of the users and a direct connection with the environment will be generated, resulting in more coexistence, security and a better quality of life for users.
