The apartment, located in an old building on Av. Beira-Mar, in Florianópolis (Brazil) was acquired by the couple and came with a pleasant surprise: most of the previous owners’ furniture remained on the property. The customers’ request was to restore and use as many pieces as possible.

Regarding the layout of the property, the project proposed the integration of the living room with the pantry, increasing the apartment’s social area. Shades of gray, together with the occasional touches of blue, were used to create a neutral background that harmonizes with the color of the sea seen through the glass doors serving as a basis for the wood tone. Antique furniture is combined with contemporary design pieces such as the glass dining table and blue lacquer sideboard. The bathroom in the social area repeats the use of the color blue in its decoration.

The kitchen was partially integrated into the dining room through a panel with a door and a sliding window, which is just above the countertop used for everyday meals. Gray finish is used in the kitchen and countertops, making the environment practically monochromatic, following the tone used in the living room panels.

The private area is accessed through a camouflaged door in the living room panel. The distribution of environments was reformulated, increasing space in the master suite for the closet. As a result, one of the rooms was reduced and repurposed as a playroom/guest room. The cheerful colors and geometric shapes of the furniture in the playroom contrast with the antique solid wood cabinet. In the daughter’s bedroom, the bed, bedside tables, and chest of drawers were restored and repainted in white lacquer, which reinforced the Provençal style of the room and harmonized with the wardrobe and the pink panels.
