This was the first shop of “arco STORE”, which was known as a shop with fine quality of Northern Europe. This shop is located at LACHIC, Mitsukoshi in Sakae, Nagoya. In the shop, there is “big furniture” where the commodities which the owner selected from Northern Europe such as Sweden and Finland are stored.

Though there are daily commodities, this shop make you notice the owner’s sense and his consideration towards design for environment and universality. I tried to realize the space which makes you feel the universality of the sophisticated design and consideration of the materials in the Northern Europe designing.

In the winter of Northern Europe, few sunshine make the shadow in the snow ground disappear and only the lights of houses and groves add the colors in the scenery.

In the ordinary commodity shop, the goods are displayed at the point which touches public notice so that you can see even far from there. However, in this shop, the relationship between consumer and supplier are recognized as important issue, and the episodes of the each goods, such as how to make or how to select the materials are introduced. In the center of the small area, “big furniture” is placed, covering most of the area. It has the shelves with different kinds of opening at random so that they express the peculiarity of the goods. The visitors don’t face large amount of the goods but meet each goods one after one. The furniture which has vagueness and collectivity of the peculiar shelves make the integration of the whole space. This furniture system is a useful method of shop expansion.
