BUFFALO, NY—May 12, 2011— Scheduled for completion in fall 2011, construction on a new design studio at Arizona State University’s Tempe campus has begun.
The eSpace Studio provides students with design, integration and prototyping tools so they can engage in realistic engineering projects from day one of their engineering education. The studio replaces classrooms and offices in the G Wing of ASU’s Engineering Center with open space for collaborative study and research. It abuts the first completed eSpace facility at ASU, the High Performance Computing Lab, which provides students with access to state-of-the-art computing tools.
Two main rooms, each accommodating 40 students, are lined with interactive design areas, projection screens, whiteboards and writeable glass wall panels to encourage collaboration. High-end computers provide power to engineering applications. An abundance of modular elements—including moveable tables, rolling cabinets, and tools and power cables that can be pulled from above—make the rooms adaptable to a full spectrum of learning experiences, from classroom lectures to large-scale design and demonstration. Display cases at the front of the room showcase finished projects.
