Avalanche is one of the top blockchain companies in the world and principal sponsor of the Andretti Formula-E racing team.
Tempelhof Airport is one of the largest historic buildings in the world, with colossal and iconic hangar spaces arranged in a crescent form stretching over 1.2km in total length.
The temporary design intervention inside Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport and associated with the Berlin Formula-E Prix in May 2022, was designed and produced to give high visibility and marketing impact to Avalanche’s brand.
The design of a parametric undulating roof surface was installed inside Hangar 6 of the airport, taking its inspiration from the advanced technologies underlying both Formula-E and Avalanche’s low-energy high-speed digital platform. The geometry of the roof is reminiscent of undulating natural phenomena - like a wave or snow formation - and creates a more intimately scaled and comfortable space inside a vast industrial structure. The 1,250m2, 48m x 26m rectangular space inside an 8,000m2 hangar is made up of carefully composed distinct elements - a perimeter curtain made of over 3km of climbing ropes, a ceiling wave element made of over 2.7km of white fabric and modular custom built seating elements which arranged in a radial constellation define specific areas of use for visitors to the space.
Moving around and through the space created by the rope curtains and the fabric roof, the overall impression of the sculptural element is of a dynamic and ever changing form with no defined boundary, but at the same time creating an inviting and visually dazzling spatial experience.
